If you could control gravity, would you build a Moon Base?
Well Art Feldmann’s discovery had made it possible and it was finished. Peter had always wanted to go to the Moon and knew that working there, even with most modern comforts, including the fully functioning toilets, was never going to be easy. He was right about missing his wife, although the weekly videomails were some consolation.
There were 12 of them in the Moon Base and there was regular contact with Earth Base Columbus, but even so he felt lonely. Peter had looked forward to the challenges of a five-year shift as Moon Major, but he hadn’t expected to have to deal with the consequences of losing contact with Earth. Their four-day holiday for the Annual Closure, to protect them from the Leonids Meteor shower, had gone as planned the problem was when they opened up the shields…
The comfort of returning home had been taken from him, and now he only had Beatriz’s support and Meichun’s database driven artificial personality to help keep him sane.
He was left with many questions and no easy answers for the team. Would they ever be able to re-establish contact with Earth Base Columbus? But more importantly would they ever be able to return home? And then there was Patrick, what were they going to do about him?
